Have you ever listened to music while home alone and started dancing around and singing along as loud as you could? Set It Off’s new single “Lonely Dance” radiates that feeling. It is upbeat, catchy, and could get a crowd dancing before the first chorus. This song is the band’s new single off of their upcoming album ‘Midnight’, which will be released February 1st, 2019, via Fearless Records. It is currently available for pre-order at https://shop.setitoffband.com/.

Set It Off is a pop rock band from Tampa, Florida. They have a theatrical and orchestral feel to the music they create. This single, which was released November 19th, 2018, is no exception. With as much anticipation that is surrounding the release of ‘Midnight’, the band has come a long way from their early EP releases between 2008 and 2010. ‘Cinematics’, their first full-length album, was released in 2012 and charted on the U.S. Billboard 200. The two albums they have released since then followed in the same footsteps by charting with each one peaking higher than the last. Their fan base continues to grow and this new album is shaping up to be their best yet.

When “Lonely Dance” starts it has a poppy, upbeat feel but soon emotion is felt within the lyrics. Frustration is apparent when the lead vocalist Cody Carson sings, “Some days I’m up, some days I’m down. Some days the world is way too loud”. If you have ever felt like coming home, turning off your phone, avoiding everyone, and being an introvert for the night, this song is for you. Sometimes everything going on in life is too much noise and you need a release. The release in this case is doing a “little lonely dance” alone at home when no one is watching and there is no social anxiety.

The emotion felt throughout “Lonely Dance” is blatant. The theatrical and quirky nature of the music and Cody Carson’s voice is reminiscent of Panic! At The Disco and Brendon Urie. The second verse continues the idea of forgetting what is going on in the world with the lyrics, “These days I’d rather pay no mind”. Yet, despite the frustration in the lyrics, the beat keeps the listener in an uplifted mood. Then, toward the end of the song, there is a realization that the only thing needed is “me, myself, and I” with a little quiet from the world. The tension seems to break along with the music for a second and then the chorus comes back. The song ends feeling more relaxed. It seems that this song could help some fans have a release when they are feeling tense and like the world is too much.

On social media, fans are posting videos of themselves singing and dancing along to the song while alone in their rooms. So what do you say? Turn on “Lonely Dance”, turn up the volume, take “one step forward, one step backwards”, and do your own little lonely dance like nobody is watching?
