You vs Yesterday is an up-and-coming pop-rock band from Dayton, Ohio. The band has worked hard over the past few years to gain exposure and fans in the Dayton area and beyond. They released their first single “Wasted” in July of 2014 and never looked back. The band followed up with the release of their first EP ‘Remember This’, which was released physically in April of 2015 and digitally in February of 2016. Their second EP ‘How’s This For Honesty’ was released in November of 2017.
The single “Collide”, which features AJ Perdomo of The Dangerous Summer, was released on September 13th, 2018, and it is the second single the band has released in the past few months. The other recent single “My Mistake” was released in July of 2018. “Collide” was featured on Spotify’s “Pop Punk’s Not Dead” playlist, and the band released a music video for the single about two months after its release. “Collide” starts out in an attention-grabbing way with the sweet vocals of Kramer Welker at the forefront. Within a few seconds, the rest of the band comes in and their heartfelt pop-rock sound is on display. The vocals (Kramer Welker), guitars (Tyler Anderson and Kramer Welker), bass (Eddie Knight), and drums (Michael Murray) all combine to give off a youthful yet mature sound. In addition, the guest vocals of AJ Perdomo add an extra layer of depth and excellence to the song. You can hear how much work has been put into the single from beginning to end.
The lyrics of “Collide” are creative, dynamic, and emotional. With lines like “If you don’t need me at home if you’re just best left alone, then just say so”, the single tugs on your heartstrings. There is a lot of love felt in the lyrics, but as the song progresses there is also a touch of heartbreak and sadness. The vocals are delivered in such a way that the song is overflowing with feelings. Every part of this single shines and it is more focused and polished than anything the band has released in the past.
You vs Yesterday is definitely a band to watch. They will be playing at the Bunbury Festival in 2019 after earning the spot by winning the Next2Rock Cincinnati Final in Cincinnati, Ohio. They just announced their first vinyl ‘Another B-Side To Your Bed’, which will include the singles “Collide” and “My Mistake”. Plus, they are currently recording an acoustic EP and plan on writing and recording their first full-length album in 2019. This band is working hard and it is certainly paying off.
