What do you do when you have a song stuck in your head? Share it on social media!

In this case, that social media platform was Twitter, and the song was the early 2000s hit “She Hates Me” by Puddle of Mudd.

The Cleveland, Ohio-based emo rapper Blossom Reynolds was driving around one day with “She Hates Me” stuck in his head. It was at that point that he realized the song is an “underrated bop”. When he took to Twitter to share his conclusion, his friend and fellow artist Drag Daze responded with a challenge saying “bet u won’t sample it”. The rapper took on that challenge and succeeded.

About the cover, Blossom Reynolds stated:
“I originally was going to have a friend just sample the guitar and make a completely different song with it, but listening to it again, I never noticed how inherently emo the song really is. I mean ‘she hates me, I tried too hard and she tore my feelings like I had none’ is pretty SAD, ha. I was already in talks with sorrowbringer from Ukraine about collabing on a song, then I heard this beat while I had the “She Hates Me” lyrics on my mind and it all just came together.”

Drawing influence from playing in bands in the past (most notably the punk ensemble Crookshanks), Blossom Reynolds merges a familiar pop-punk sound over melodic trap and pop beats to create a vibe that is simultaneously upbeat and somber. Since starting his solo project in May of 2018, he has released a five-song EP, eleven singles, and been featured on a handful of other songs in the rap/hip-hop community. He has headlined two shows in his hometown of Cleveland and has opened for acts such as Shinigami, 93feetofsmoke, and familypet. He currently has a four-song collaboration EP with producer The Tear God slated for a Spring release and is working on new videos and upcoming shows.
