On July 6th and 7th, the fifth annual Gnarbeque Music & Arts Festival will be held at Woodland’s Backyard in Columbus, Ohio. This DIY festival will feature live music, art and craft vendors, game competitions, fire and flow arts, a weekend long comedy experience, interactive art installations, live painting, food vendors, games, prizes, giveaways, and much more.

The Gnarbeque started as the first show for Columbus-local alternative band Tourist Trap in their home on July 29th, 2015. Without knowledge of how to book a gig, the band threw together a makeshift party with three bands playing in a basement, one table with art for sale in the living room, and a grill in the back yard of the home. Their first show was exactly how you would imagine any rock band’s first show in a basement to go, but the event sparked a community-driven idea that has carried on annually. The event moved to a different house that was on the OSU campus, and over the next three years, spanned across four neighboring yards. This allowed for two stages, fire and flow arts areas, live painting, and an entire “artist alley” featuring local art vendors.

This year, co-founder and president of the Gnarbeque, Zach Barnes, has recruited help from some of the best local talent and resources in Columbus, including CD102.5 The Alternative Radio Station, and Woodlands Productions for the fifth annual event. The goal is to make this one of the most diverse and loving alternative community festivals in the nation and be able to start using the Gnarbeque to give back.
